THE MOVIE: NEWSIES
What de heck is newsies, do ya ask... Geez! Go rent the movie and you'll see why this page exists! Newsies is based on a true story involving the 1899 newsboy strike. Joseph Pulitzer, owner of the New York World, decided to increase the distribution price for the newsies. At this, the newsies decided to go on strike, fighting for their rights. So why are there so many legions of fans out there despite the movie critics?? My answer is simple. Movie critics suck and Newsies Rule!!! This movie isn't like any other. It's a musical with a powerful message for young people. Newsies is an inspiring source for kids who don't want to be taken advantage of, and it's kind of like that "David and Goliath" reference that Denton mentioned. I feel it took guts to make a musical during these days where most people don't care much about them, but I'm glad it did. All of the great classic musicals were released when most of us Newsie-freaks weren't even born and didn't get to experience the movie theatres filled with music and dance. The only way that it was able to pull through was with Disney cartoons which led children to another world. Ever since I was a kid, I always felt that no one would have any problems, there would be no war and hate if everyone just sing and danced where everyone would be happy. Of course, I knew this was just a dream. Music, movies, and dance are all the things that I use as an escape, but that's why I loved musicals which was a great combination of all the things I love... plus it will give ya a good excuse to write a history report on this and it don't hurt to mention it has a bunch of cute guys in it=)
